Cal Mero is an international award winning underwater photographer currently based in Melbourne, Australia.

Best known for his highly creative and original underwater work, Cal brings the full force of youth and enthusiasm to each and every project.

Cal formally trained as a marine biologist (BSc Hons). During this time he dived extensively and developed his passion for underwater photography. He began to study and practice underwater photography as often as possible. Soon underwater photography turned into a mild addiction and then later, it became an aquatic obsession.

Cal is the recipient of numerous international photography awards including a highly prestigious Eureka Prize from The Australian Museum and New Scientist Magazine, The prestigious David Doubilet Award for Excellence in Underwater Photography and recently, he was awarded a simultaneous 1st place for Young Underwater Photographer 2009 and Underwater Art Photography 2009 from Asian Geographic and Scuba Diving Australasia. Additionally, he recieved a 1st place (Macro) and 2nd place (Environment) award from the Our World Underwater and DEEP Indonesia international photography competitions which are often referred to as the 'superbowl' of underwater photography.

On the few occasions that Cal is out of the water he pursues a diverse range of activities. Cal is passionate about lacrosse, street art and live music.
